CHRISTMAS 2005

Dear Camp Friends,

Happy Holiday Season!

Do you remember the letter you wrote to yourself? As promised, I am sending it back to you. I’ve been thinking a lot about each one of you and remember your smiling faces. In my mind I still hear, “Hi, Ardie!” as you greeted me here on the farm. Now it is so-o-o quiet!

I have a very special gift for you. It is a Sacagawea gold dollar coin. The English translation of her name is “Bird Woman.” She was a Lemhi Shoshone Indian who, at the age of fourteen years, with her baby strapped on her back, was the scout who led the Lewis and Clark expedition through the northern Great Plains to the Pacific Ocean between 1804 and 1806. Her bravery and spirit can be an inspiration for each one of us.

Did you ever think of yourself as a scout, that you could be a big help to someone else? Perhaps a person in your family or a friend needs help.

Please keep this coin in a safe place to help you to remember the message of being a scout—or perhaps you can call it being a leader.

You are a very special person who can do great things.

You are part of the sun when you smile and bring happiness to others.

You are part of the stars as you give your family and friends new ideas—for this, too, is being a scout.

Love,
